Yukyuzan Ski Area Closed
Official name 悠久山スキー場
Niigata
Open 1959–1999
Yukyuzan Ski Area was a small hill on the eastern edge of Nagaoka city, next to Yukyuzan Park, which is known for its cherry blossoms and autumn colours. Opened in 1959, it had a single chairlift and a rope tow on a slope of about 50 m vertical, with three runs up to roughly 500 m long and night skiing. Only about 4 km from Nagaoka Station, it was busy with local residents and school ski lessons. Visitor numbers fell after the Nagaoka municipal ski area opened in 1973, and a run of low-snow winters added to its decline; it closed in 1999. All facilities have since been removed and nothing of the ski area remains.
