Tsubame Onsen Ski Area Closed
Official name 燕温泉スキー場
Niigata
Open 1956–2007
Tsubame Onsen Ski Area sat behind Tsubame Onsen, the highest hot-spring village around Mt. Myoko, on the mountain's eastern foot at about 1,100 m. A small area with two pair lifts and three runs, it was tied closely to the inn village and was known for deep snow and a season that often reached Golden Week. It last operated in winter 2004, was suspended from 2005, and its abolition was decided in March 2007. The lifts have been removed, but the former slope is still skied as the descent route of ski-touring trips on Mt. Myoko, and the onsen inns remain open.
