Mt. Mikaburiyama

A 242 m independent peak in the Itakura district of Jōetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, crowned by Mikaburi Castle Ruins — a Jōetsu-designated historic site built by the Ōkuma clan, senior retainers of the Uesugi family, as a branch castle of Kasugayama in the Sengoku period. The Ōkuma River to the east and Kokuma River to the west form natural moats, and across roughly 400 m east-west and 300 m north-south the site preserves baileys, dry moats, earthworks and a well shaft in good condition. A ten-minute walk from the parking area at the foot reaches the main bailey, where views open over the Takada Plain toward the Sea of Japan. The mountain is listed in Niigata's 50 Selected Mountain Walks and the Jōetsu–Myōkō Mountain Castles list.
