Akakura Onsen Ski Area rises straight above the Akakura hot-spring village on the eastern foot of Mt. Myoko, and it prides itself on 100% natural snow and plenty of powder. Seventeen runs spread across the Yodel, Kumado, Ginrei and Sekimi areas, from long, wide beginner slopes and tree-lined trails to an ungroomed mogul pitch of up to 43 degrees. The Kumado area offers night skiing every day in the main season, so guests at the onsen inns can ski into the evening, and a kids' snow park suits families. Runs connect with the neighbouring Akakura Kanko resort, and the Myoko-Kogen IC is about eight minutes away by car.
