Akakura Kanko Resort spreads over the eastern slopes of Mt Myoko and has grown up alongside the Akakura Kanko Hotel, which opened with the ski area in 1937, making it one of Japan's most historic resorts. Its draws are the classic slope in front of the hotel and the long cruise from about 1,500 m, reached by the six-seat Myoko Kogen Sky Cable gondola, with views from the Champion B run over Lake Nojiri to the Sea of Japan. Ungroomed expert runs such as Champion A (32 degrees) add challenge, and a joint ticket covers neighbouring Akakura Onsen. The season runs from mid-December to the May holidays, with a free shuttle from the onsen town.
