Sarukurayama Ski Area Closed
Official name 猿倉山スキー場
Toyama
Open 1965–2010
Sarukurayama was a city-run ski area in the Sarukurayama Forest Park in Funakura, Toyama City (formerly Osawano town). Opened in 1965 on part of the old Sarukura castle site, it ran from the following year as a combined ranch and ski area. Its north-facing slopes looked out over the Toyama plain and Toyama Bay, and it offered beginner and intermediate runs, a snowboard course and a sledging course for families. A 300 m chairlift replaced the T-bar in 1969, and floodlights later allowed weekday night skiing. Ageing facilities and fewer visitors led to its closure after the 2009-10 season, and the lift has been removed.
