Gifu
Open 1973–2004
Rosse Sportsland, also called Rosse Kogen Ski Area, was a ski area in the Rosse district of former Nyukawa Village, now part of Takayama City, Gifu. It opened in 1973 on west-facing slopes running from 920 m to 1,270 m, served by three single chairlifts and eight courses. Skiers liked its steep, varied upper slopes, and in the 1980s it drew 20,000-30,000 visitors a season, but numbers later fell to around 10,000 and it closed in 2004. The lifts and the large Rosse Sanso lodge have been removed; the lower slopes are overgrown with pampas grass, and lift foundations and the old car park remain.
