Naruko Ski Area was on Mt. Hanabuchi in the former town of Naruko, now part of Osaki, Miyagi. It opened in 1962 as Hanabuchiyama Ski Area, became a national ski area, and in 1993 was rebranded as the resort Naruko Sky Valley with a six-person gondola that also carried hikers outside the ski season. In 1994 it hosted the skiing events of the 49th National Sports Festival and took the name Naruko Ski Area. It was due to close in autumn 2000 but kept going at local request; no new operator was found, and it closed after the 2001-02 season.
