Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU is a large resort in Shimukappu, almost in the middle of Hokkaido, known for the dry powder that its deep inland cold produces. Twenty-nine courses spread over two mountains, Tomamu Mountain and Tower Mountain, from a 4.2 km cruiser to 35-degree steeps, with an experts-only off-piste zone (registration required) and snowcat tours for powder hunters. Kids' slopes, lessons and childcare make it popular with families, and the high-rise Tomamu The Tower and Risonare Tomamu hotels sit right on the slopes. Non-skiers have the Ice Village and the rime-ice terrace. The season runs from early December to early April, with easy access from JR Tomamu Station and New Chitose Airport.
