Higashiyama Koen Ski Area is a small town-run slope in Higashiyama Park, right behind central Kuromatsunai. It has a single T-bar lift and is managed by the town board of education, which has long used it for children's ski lessons. Most of the season it runs into the evening under lights, from the afternoon on weekdays and from the morning at weekends, so locals can ski after school or work. Tickets come as single rides, three-hour, day and season passes, with lower prices for town residents. When the opening day is set, the town switches on the slope lights the evening before as a signal.
