Hakkoda Kokusai is the groomed area next to the base station of the Hakkoda Ropeway, the only place on Mt. Hakkoda with prepared runs. Its three lift-served courses link with the ropeway terrain, where the Direct and Forest courses drop 3.5 km and 5 km of ungroomed snow through snow monsters and beech forest from the summit station, best for confident skiers. Midwinter brings deep, high-quality powder, a snow park opens in spring, and the season runs from late November to Golden Week. Tour routes beyond the boundary are unpatrolled backcountry. It is about 40 minutes by car from Aomori city.

The 8:10, 9:20 and 10:50 runs from Aomori (Hakkoda 2, 4, 6) need a reservation when boarding at Aomori or Shin-Aomori. In winter the bus terminates at Sukayu Onsen

Six tour routes from the ropeway top (opened from early March or April) lie outside the managed area; they are unpatrolled and at your own risk, and the Mt. Hakkoda local rules charge rescue costs for accidents outside the area.
