Makado Onsen Ski Area trail map
Makado Onsen is a national-designated ski area on the hill behind Makado hot spring in Noheji, with views over Mutsu Bay and the Shimokita Peninsula from the top. Three lifts served five runs over about 240 m of vertical, from easy slopes to pitches of 30 degrees and a forest trail of roughly 2 km, and it offered night skiing and lessons. A landslide after heavy rain in August 2022 damaged the slopes, and the area has not operated since; the town has given up on reopening it, and the operator is looking for someone to take it over.
