Owani Onsen Ski Resort trail map
Owani Onsen Ski Resort, on Mt. Ajara above the hot-spring town of Owani in southern Tsugaru, has more than a century of history. Local youth groups opened it at the end of 1922, and it went on to host the 1924 All-Japan Ski Championships, the first inter-university championships and several National Sports Festival winter events. Its Amaike International course still hosts national student championships and National Sports Festival winter events. Alongside the racing terrain there are plenty of easy slopes, including the 4.2 km Amaike Panorama trail and a family slope, so beginners are well served. The area is about 10 minutes from the Owani-Hirosaki interchange and close to Owani Onsen Station, with the town's baths nearby.
