Iwakisan Hyakuzawa Ski Area trail map
Iwakisan Hyakuzawa is Hirosaki's city ski area on the southeast slope of Mount Iwaki, the peak known as the Fuji of Tsugaru. It gets plenty of natural snow, with an average January base of about 190 cm. The signature run links two pair lifts into a 2 km descent, and the upper advanced terrain includes moguls and deep snow, while gentle beginner and family slopes sit lower down. Snowboards and snowscoots are allowed on every run. Night skiing runs four evenings a week, and cheap timed tickets make it an easy after-work hill for locals. It is about 30 minutes by car from central Hirosaki, close to the Hyakuzawa and Dake hot springs.
