Family Gelände Kirigamine is a small city-owned ski area on the Kirigamine Plateau above Suwa, at about 1,600 m. Two chairlifts serve three gentle runs on open grassland slopes, making it a place for beginners and families rather than for steep skiing. A practice area with a moving walkway, a separate sledding slope and a kids' snow park keep young children apart from skiers. Preschoolers ride free, and on the third Sunday of each month lift day tickets are free for junior-high pupils and younger. There is an SAJ-certified ski school, and inns at Kirigamine Onsen are close by. In summer the lift carries hikers onto the plateau.
