Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway trail map
The Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway climbs from Asahidake Onsen to Sugatami Station at 1,600 m on the west side of Mt. Asahi, Hokkaido's highest peak, and in winter draws skiers and snowboarders from Japan and abroad for some of the country's lightest powder. It lies inside Daisetsuzan National Park, so riding is limited to four marked courses (A-D) once the snow is deep enough, descending about 500 m through forest back to the base station. This is mountain terrain rather than a groomed resort: diamond dust and rime ice are part of the scenery, and avalanche gear and experience are expected.
