Arashiyama Citizens' Ski Area was a small hill run by Asahikawa City inside Arashiyama Park, just outside the city in Takasu town. It had 124 m of vertical and a longest run of 610 m, served by a single chairlift that, unusually for Japan, bent partway up after it was moved to make room for the enlarged ski jump next door. The adjacent Arashiyama jump hills once hosted national competitions. The ski area closed at the end of February 2006 for financial reasons, and plans for the site have focused on turning part of it into nature park and letting the rest return to forest.
