A 1,067 m lava-dome volcano of Yugamine rhyolite that rises above Gero Onsen in Gifu Prefecture, dated to around 100,000 years ago. Tradition holds that the hot springs that became today's Gero Onsen first welled up near its summit roughly a thousand years ago, and the lower slopes yield Gero-ishi, the dark glassy lava prized as Jōmon-period tool stock. The summit looks out on Mt. Hakusan, Mt. Nōgōhakusan, and the spa town below, and the peak is listed in Tōkai 100, Zoku Gifu 100, and Hida 100.
