Mt. Tokamayama is a 292.4 m low peak in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, on the boundary between Osaka and Jion-ji districts; its neat conical profile seen from the Jion-ji side has earned it the nickname Asakura-Fuji, and it is also known as Mt. Osakayama. The mountain looks down upon the site of the Asakura Palace of Emperor Yūryaku; the ruins of the Nanboku-chō-period Tokamayama Castle crown the summit, and over 126 ancient burial mounds — including the tomb of Princess Ōtomo — surround its foothills, making it a landscape of historical depth referenced in both the Yamato-shi and the Man'yōshū. Easily climbed on foot from Kintetsu Asakura Station, it offers commanding views of the Yamato Basin and is listed among the Nihon Hyaku-Fuji and Nara Hyaku-Yū-zan.
