Mount Nukai (Nukaidake, 812 m) rises on the boundary between Uda City and Nara City in Nara Prefecture, its symmetric conical profile earning it the affectionate name 'Yamato Fuji'. A small Ryūō shrine for rain-making rites stands on the summit, while the foothills—site of the venerable Jūhachi Shrine—are traditionally said to be the burial place of the Man'yō poet Yamabe no Akahito. The peak is listed on the Kinki and Kansai Hyakumeizan and the Japan 100 Fujis, and Uda City publishes an official guided route up the mountain.
