Mt. Ookunimiyama

大国見山

Ōkunimiyama is a 498 m hill rising in the north-east of Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, distinguished by its sharp triangular profile along the Kasuga Fault escarpment. The summit holds a cluster of megaliths used as an ancient iwakura altar and a small shrine to the deity Oyama-Ōkami, and the rocks are said to have served as a beacon station. The popular trail passes Momoo Falls, the "Furu Falls" celebrated in the Man'yōshū, and the peak appears in the Nara Prefecture and Nara 100 hiking guides.
