A 976-meter foothill peak rising along the Nechi River in Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture, just inside the prefectural border with Otari Village of Nagano, and within the western section of the Itoigawa UNESCO Global Geopark. The summit commands a sweeping view of Mounts Amakazari, Myōkō, Hiuchi and Takatsuma along the Jōshin-etsu range, and across the Hime River to the Northern Alps' Hakuba and Ushiro-Tateyama crests — promoted by the Itoigawa City Tourism Association as the "Grand Panorama of the Northern Alps." Two trails serve the peak — one from the Shiro-ike-no-Mori car park and one beside the Outward Bound Japan campus — and the recommended climbing season runs from mid-May through early November. The peak is featured in the 50 Mountain Walks of Niigata, the Bunken Tozan guide of Niigata mountains and the Hokuriku Shinkansen 100 Mountains, and a seasonal climbing taxi operates from Itoigawa Station in summer.
