Mt. Nanashigureyama
七時雨山
Hachimantai, Iwate · Elevation 1,060 m
Mt. Nanashigureyama is a 1,063-meter twin-summit peak forming the southern wall of the Tashiro Caldera in northeastern Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture. The northern peak hosts a first-class triangulation station and the southern peak is the actual high point — both unobstructed viewpoints over Mt. Iwate, the Hakkōda range, and Mt. Hayachine. Selected by Iwasaki Motoo for the Shin Nihon Hyakumeizan and counted among Iwate's 20 famous mountains, the peak is climbed via the Tashirodai or Nishine-Terada trailheads in roughly three hours round trip. Hachimantai City and its tourism association host an annual yamabiraki ceremony on the fourth Sunday of May.
