Mt. Kohachirodake

Kohachirodake is a 1,470-meter foothill peak in Matsukawa Town, Shimoina District, Nagano Prefecture, set on the eastern ridge running off Mount Eboshi in the southern Central Alps. Its name is said to derive from a tradition that the warrior Katagiri Kohachiro, who served Minamoto no Yoshitomo during the Hogen Rebellion, used the mountain as a 'summer fortress.' The summit can be reached in about an hour from the Hatouchi-toge trailhead, yet offers a sweeping view across the Ina Valley to the Southern Alps, and it serves as the gateway for traverses toward Mount Eboshi and Mount Nenjo.
