Mt. Kannonmineyama, 1,347.7 m, rises in Tenkawa Village, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, within Yoshino-Kumano National Park on the north-western edge of the Ōmine Range. The forested summit gives only limited views, but the Kannonmine Observatory some 60 m below at 1,285 m looks across to Mt. Inamura-ga-take and Mt. Dainichi-san and southward to Mt. Misen and Mt. Hakkyō-ga-take on the UNESCO World Heritage Ōmine Okugake pilgrimage trail. The slopes hold the 'Kannon-no-Iwaya' rock shelter — where, by tradition, refugees of the Southern Court hid — and reliefs along the path narrate Tenkawa's links to that dynasty; the limestone bedrock supports several near-extinct endemic plants. The trailhead rest house just past the Abu Tunnel on Prefectural Road 21 puts the summit within a 3-hour out-and-back, promoted by the Tenkawa Village Tourism Office and the Nara Prefectural 'Aruku-Nara' walking portal as a beginner-friendly hike.
