Mt. Hishigatake

Hishi-ga-take is a 1,129.1 m peak in the Yasuzuka district of Jōetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, in the Sekida Mountains along the Niigata–Nagano border. The name ("Diamond Peak") comes from the lozenge-shaped silhouette seen from the Kubiki plain, and the mountain has long been a center of Yakushi (Medicine Buddha) worship. Its summit gives views as far as the Sea of Japan, and beech forests cloak the upper slopes. A spur trail from the Shinetsu Trail near Sukawa Pass leads to the top. The mountain appears in the Echigo 100, Niigata 100, Hokuriku Shinkansen 100 Famous Mountains and several other regional lists.
