Matsunoyama Onsen Ski Area is a city-owned hill about a kilometre from the hot-spring town of Matsunoyama in Tokamachi, Niigata. Two pair lifts serve runs up to 2,000 m long over roughly 330 m of vertical, from the steep Champion course to a gentle family slope. It stands out for snow toys: snow bikes, airboards, snowscoots and snow surfboards can be rented, with guided taster lessons, so non-skiers can enjoy the slopes in boots. A soak in the town's baths rounds off the day, and the season runs from late December to the end of March.
