Mt. Amamizu

Amamizu-yama is a 1,088 m peak straddling Tōkamachi City (Matsunoyama) in Niigata Prefecture and Sakae Village (Shimominochi District) in Nagano Prefecture, at the eastern end of the Sekida mountain range along the Shin'etsu border. It is the endpoint of Section 6 of the Shin'etsu Trail (Fushino Pass — Nonomi Pass — Fukasaka Pass — Amamizu-yama, about 12.8 km), with old-growth beech forest and the Nonno-umi wetland along the way. A side trail descends to the Matsunoyama-side trailhead, where a small parking area and bio-toilet are provided. The mountain is also listed in the Niigata 100 Famous Mountains and Hokuriku Shinkansen 100 Famous Mountains.
