Mount Tatara

Mount Tatara (390 m) is a satoyama hill in the Kado district of Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, rising on the east bank of the Kitakami River opposite central Morioka. Its name recalls historic tatara iron-smelting once practiced on its slopes, and the peak is alternatively written 多々良山. Celebrated in the Edo–Meiji-period 'Morioka Hakkei' (Eight Views of Morioka) as 'Tatara-yama Autumn Moon,' it now anchors the Chōgamori–Tatarayama segment of the Morioka City Environment Bureau's suburban nature trail network, and is listed in the Iwate Hyakumeizan and Iwate 150.
