Mt. Iwayama

Mt. Iwayama is a 340-meter satoyama on the eastern edge of central Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, where the city has laid out the Iwayama-sansaku-ro promenade as one of the Morioka Suburban Nature Trails. Two roughly 1-kilometer trails — about an hour each — start from beside Jōtō Junior High and near Sannō Elementary, and a 2-kilometer bird-watching loop circles the summit observatory; the top commands views of the Kitakami Basin and Mt. Iwate. The mountain hosts Iwayama Park, an observation tower, and the gravesite of Hara Takashi, and is included in the Iwate-no-Yama 150 list.
