Mount Sandan

Mount Sandan is a 1,748 m peak in Kamifurano, Hokkaido, west of the Tokachi Range and opposite Kamihorokamettoku across Ansei Crater. Its name refers to three tiers on its slopes. Normally a roughly four-hour traverse climbs from Hakuginso and descends to Tokachidake Onsen, with autumn foliage and views of Kamihoro’s rock walls. It lies in Daisetsuzan National Park. Since September 12, 2026, climbing from both trailheads has been prohibited under Tokachidake’s Level 3 alert.
