Mount Mijōgatake

Mount Mijōgatake (1,552.9 m) is a remote peak in the Oku-Tadami area of Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, within the Echigo-Sanzan-Tadami Quasi-National Park. The unusual approach starts behind a shutter inside the Oku-Tadami Silver Line tunnel, opening onto the Nakizawa trailhead; from the summit, an unbroken 360° view takes in the Echigo-Sanzan (Komagatake, Naka-no-take and Hakkaisan) along with Mount Arasawa. Thick undergrowth and venomous snakes make the route demanding, but the peak is included in the One Hundred Mountains of Niigata and listed among the "silent mountains."
