Mount Kagikake

Mount Kagikake is an 838 m peak on the prefectural border ridge between Kaneyama Town in Yamagata Prefecture and Yuzawa City in Akita Prefecture, blanketed in old-growth beech forest. Its name is said to derive from wooden hooks (kagi) that travellers crossing the pass once hung on a great tree at the summit for safe passage. The mountain stands at the start of the traverse north toward the Kamuro range and is number 36 of the Yamagata 100 Mountains.
