A 470-meter rocky peak straddling the border of Yonezawa City and Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture — unusual among Yamagata's mountains for its dramatic rock outcrops. Legend says Jikaku Daishi Ennin spent a year in seclusion here in 860 CE before moving to Yamadera, giving the peak its name ("one-year peak"). A short beginner's trail from the Kamikaizoe hamlet weaves past Hataori-iwa, Maku-iwa and Tengu-no-sumō-iwa to a summit rock with panoramic views of the Zaō and Asahi ranges.
