Komatsu Ski Area is a small town-run slope in Kawanishi, Yamagata, in operation since 1925 and known locally as Sanbonmatsu Ski Area. There is no chairlift, only a rope tow, and besides skiers and snowboarders it draws people riding snow boards without bindings. It opens on weekend and holiday daytimes, adds evening sessions on several weeknights in January and February, and is used for local school ski lessons.
