Komagatake

Komagatake is a 1,067 m mountain in Takahata Town, Higashiokitama District, Yamagata Prefecture, at the southern end of the Zao Range and linked by a ridge to Goshisan to the northeast. Long considered virtually unclimbed, it gained a circuit trail through the work of a local mountain club in 1999. The quiet approach follows a stream through beech forest before reaching a narrow rocky ridge below the summit. The summit has no view, but the 969 m peak on the approach offers a viewpoint and space to rest.
