Funakoshinokashira is a 2,612 m summit in Itoigawa, Niigata, at the start of the main ridge from Hakuba Oike to Korengeyama. Its slopes seen from below were said to resemble a ship’s gunwale, giving rise to the name Funakoshi. On the route from Tsugaike Nature Garden to Shiroumadake, it is 45 minutes from Hakuba Oike and another 50 minutes to Korengeyama. It lies in Chubu-Sangaku National Park.
