Kita-dake Sanso

北岳山荘

2,900 m · Minami-Alps, Yamanashi · 0.8 km from the summit of Mount Nakashirane

Two-storey steel-framed hut at 2,900m in the saddle between Kitadake and Nakashirane in the Southern Alps. Yamanashi Prefecture built it in 1978 to relieve crowding in the huts on the Kitadake ridge and to act as a base for safety guidance in the northern part of the range; from fiscal 2025 the Ashiyasu Fan Club and Minami-Alps Gateway run it as designated managers. It sleeps 80, offering room-only stays with bedding to which dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch can be added, and a designated campsite adjoins. From mid-July the rooms look out on sunrise climbing to the left of Mt. Fuji, and through the summer season Showa University's medical faculty runs a clinic here. The water source is a 90-minute round trip away, but water is given out free inside the hut. Outside the season part of the building is opened as a winter shelter.
