美濃戸山荘

Lodge at 1,760m at Minoto, where the forest road ends and the Minamisawa and Kitasawa trails divide, in the southern Yatsugatake range. It serves as a base for traverses of the southern peaks such as Akadake and Yokodake; from Minotoguchi it is about twenty minutes by car or forty on foot, though the forest road is rough. A pechka stove in the outdoor common area burns wood for warmth, and even passing hikers are offered free tea and seasonal pickles. The atmosphere is pleasantly old-fashioned; dinner is horsemeat sukiyaki and breakfast is Japanese-style. It sleeps 61 in nine four-person private rooms and a 25-person common room, with flush toilets and paper provided, and a bath for guests only. There is parking reserved for guests. Nuts, mushrooms and mountain vegetables abound in the woods around the building, and river fish and wild-vegetable dishes are a speciality. Run by the Fujimori group together with Akadake Tenboso, Yatsugatake Sanso and Hutte Natsuzawa.
