Yokotsudake Kokusai Ski Area lies on the southern flank of Mt. Yokotsu (1,167 m) in Nanae, just north of Hakodate. Opened in 1972, it had three pair lifts and seven runs over about 290 m of vertical, including pitches up to 40 degrees, a 2 km run and floodlit night skiing, and rime-coated trees could be seen in February. Popular as a slope close to Hakodate, it was taken over by Kamori Kanko in 2002, but it has been suspended since the 2004-05 season, and the lifts are still in place. Hakodate Nanae Snow Park continues to operate on the north side of the same mountain.
