West Zao Ski Area Closed

West Zao (Nishi Zao) was a small ski area in the Tsuchizaka area of Yamagata City, about a kilometre off the Nishi Zao Kogen Line road and a few kilometres north of the famous Zao Onsen ski area. The outline of the old slope can still be made out, and a hikers' guide map and an old road sign nearby still show the ski area. The Nishi Zao pasture lies further along the same road.
