Wassamu Higashiyama Ski Area trail map
Wassamu Higashiyama Ski Area is the town hill of Wassamu, halfway between Asahikawa and Nayoro beside Route 40 and the JR Soya Line, and has run lifts since 1969. A pair chair and a single chair reach dry powder slopes ranging from long beginner runs to ungroomed wooded trails off the second lift. The first lift is lit for night skiing, and night tickets are very cheap. Local alpine races and training camps use it, and it is where Olympic Nordic combined skier Taihei Kato started out. The lodge has a cafeteria, it is five minutes from the Wassamu expressway exit, and the season runs from mid-December to late March.
