Tokamachi Shimin Ski Area Closed
Official name 十日町市民スキー場
Niigata · 215–280 m
Open 1971–1993
Tokamachi Shimin Ski Area was a small local hill about 3 km south of central Tokamachi, Niigata, beside Route 253. Opened in 1971, it had a single chairlift of about 300 m, three runs over roughly 65 m of vertical, and night skiing, and was used mostly by local residents. It closed in 1993; the lift has been removed and only its concrete footings remain. The former slope is now a community tree-planting site, and in 2013 it hosted a planting festival linked to Japan's National Tree-Planting Festival.
