Sannokura Ski Area trail map

Sannokura Ski Area is a city-owned hill on Mount Sannokura north of Kitakata, Fukushima, that bills itself as Japan's least crowded ski area. The slopes look straight down over the Aizu Basin, sometimes onto a sea of clouds. Runs are mostly mid-pitch, with a 1.5 km forest track along a summer logging road and an ungroomed strip beside the main run, and the lower slope is lit for night skiing. Lift tickets are cheap, preschoolers ride free, and parking and the sledding hill cost nothing. In summer the slopes turn into a large sunflower field.
