Kotobuki is the town ski hill of Nakatombetsu in northern Hokkaido, with a single pair chairlift. Snow falls often here, and the hill makes a point of offering fresh powder, including an ungroomed line under the lift. There are advanced, intermediate and family runs of up to 25 degrees, a snowboard-only trail and a short cross-country loop. The lodge has a canteen serving ramen and butadon, a kids' space and a baby bed. Lift tickets and rentals are cheap, and cross-country gear is lent for free. Kotobuki means celebration, so the hill bills itself as the ski area with the most auspicious name in Japan.
