Iwamizawa Haginoyama Shimin Ski Area is a city ski hill a short drive from central Iwamizawa and the expressway, best known for its unusually wide slope: about 1.5 km across, with seven courses running side by side from easy on the right to steep on the left. Runs are short and served by pair lifts, so it suits families, lessons and quick laps. Night skiing runs every evening, which makes it a favourite after-work and after-school hill for locals. Local volunteers opened it in 1966, and the regional ski federation runs lessons and tests here. The season usually runs from mid-December to early March.
