Echigo Axiom Ski Area Closed
Official name 越後アクシオムスキー場 · Formerly 権現堂スキー場
Niigata
Open 1972–2002
Echigo Axiom Ski Area, known locally as Gongendo, was a ski hill on the north-western side of Mount Shimogongendo in northern Uonuma, Niigata. It opened in 1972 with a single lift and grew to four pair lifts, two rope tows at the base and five runs, including one about 2.5 km long, over roughly 500 m of vertical. Two half-pipes made it popular with snowboarders, and it once offered night skiing, mostly on Fridays and Saturdays. The business failed and the hill closed in the early 2000s. Its lifts have since been almost entirely removed, though a nearby hot-spring facility still operates.
