Mt. Shirahage

白兀山

An 896-meter peak in eastern Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and one of the principal summits of the Iōzen massif within the Iōzen Prefectural Natural Park. The name ("white bald mountain") refers to the exposed granite of the summit, which rises bare above the forest. An observation tower on the top offers a 360-degree panorama of the Hakusan Range, the Kanazawa city plain and Toyama Bay, and the peak is the most popular climb in the Iōzen group. The standard route starts at the Iōzen Visitor Center in Okushinbo, Kanazawa, and links along the ridge to Hakoyatani-yama; the prefectural trail network is staffed and maintained between May 1 and November 30.
