Shakagatake is a 1,641 m peak straddling the border of Fuefuki City and Kōfu City in Yamanashi, rising on the northern flank of the Misaka Mountains as a sharp granite cone. Seen from the Kōfu basin its triangular silhouette and the great southwest cliff line known as Byōbu-iwa make it instantly recognisable. The summit gives a full 360-degree view of Mount Fuji, the Southern Alps, Yatsugatake and Okuchichibu, and the peak is included in both the Yamanashi 100 and the prefecture's 100 Selected Hiking Courses. The standard climb from the Suzuran wildflower car park is a 3-hour return trip with a steep, rocky finish to the top.
