Mt. Ryugatake is a 1,485 m peak rising from the southern shore of Lake Motosu in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture — one of the principal beginner-friendly mountains on the western flank of Mt. Fuji. Its summit and broad bamboo-grass slopes look directly across the lapis-blue lake to Mt. Fuji, and it is renowned as one of the prime viewpoints for the Diamond Fuji phenomenon (the sun rising directly out of Fuji's summit), drawing many hikers in late December and early January. The peak lies within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and is listed in the Yamanashi Hyakumeizan and the Yamanashi Hiking 100, among others.
